The spelling lists come from the Peninsula District spelling adoption, Words Their Way. Students are placed in groups based on the results of a spelling assessment. Students cut their word lists and sort them into categories. The word sorts go home on Monday, with the the spelling test being at 9:45 on Friday.
 
Green Group - The words this week focus on adding "ing" to words with specific patterns: you drop the "e" to add "ing" with words ending in "e" (hike/hiking). You double the consonant if there is a vowel before it (set/setting). You just add the "ing" if the word ends in a consonant (read/reading).

Blue Group -The words this week focus on short and long "a." Short "a" as in "glass"; long "a" with a silent "e" at the end, as in "trade"; long "a" with an "i" as in "Spain"; and long "a" with a "y", as in "lay."

Yellow Group - The words this week focus on adding "ion" by dropping the silent "e" at the end of worda that ends in "te"; and by adding "tion" by dropping the "e' at the end of words ending with "ce"."
